Free reviews and pilots

Reviews and small builds I do for free, pilots with a few teams, and open calls. Each has a clear free part and a clear paid continuation. To request one, use the form below and name it.

A written backend scope and price estimate within 24 hours

For founders and product managers who have a product description or an MVP and no sense of what the backend costs. Send a description or a link to mock-ups; you get a breakdown by module, hours per module, a price range, and what I would cut from version one. Paid continuation: the development itself, per that estimate.

A rescue plan for a stuck Python project

For companies with a Django, Flask or FastAPI product that is unfinished, not shipping, or held together by one developer who left. Included: repository access, and within three days a written plan: what is broken, what remains, how many hours, where to start. Paid continuation: hourly work and maintenance.

A payment integration review

For teams that already run Stripe, Adyen, a crypto provider or their own processing. Included: I read the payment flow and the webhook handling code and write down, with priorities, where money leaks or idempotency breaks. Paid continuation: fixing what was found, reconciliation, new rails (stablecoins, local methods).

An architecture review from one document or diagram

For startups before scaling and teams deciding whether to split a monolith. Included: I read your diagram or description and within 48 hours return a page with risks, bottlenecks and the order in which I would change things. Paid continuation: target architecture design and the rewrite itself.

An LLM processing prototype on 100 of your records

For marketplaces and catalogs that need to translate, classify or clean product cards and documents. Included: I take a hundred of your records, run them through the pipeline and return the result, a quality assessment and a price per thousand. Paid continuation: the pipeline over the full volume, built into your system.

A migration estimate off Python 2 or an old Django

For companies with legacy they are afraid to touch. Included: compatibility tools run over the repository, a list of dependency blockers, an hour estimate and a staged migration plan without stopping the product. Paid continuation: the migration itself.

A slow query review for PostgreSQL

For teams on PostgreSQL whose pages or reports have become slow. Send three to five queries with their execution plans and the schema; you get, in writing, what to index, what to rewrite and what to expect in timing. Paid continuation: schema optimization, partitioning, moving reports to a separate store.

One webhook integration in 48 hours

For teams that need to receive events from Stripe, Telegram, GitHub or another service and store them in their database. Included: one handler with signature verification, retries and logs, in your repository, with tests. Paid continuation: the other events, a queue, monitoring, maintenance.

Pilots

Vulnerability reporting and a crypto inventory for the EU Cyber Resilience Act

I am looking for three teams that ship software into the EU and will have to deliver VEX reports and a cryptography inventory; I run their builds through my open Go tools and return the reports and a list of what needs fixing. How I choose: an SBOM exists or they are ready to produce one, the product really sells in the EU. The participant gets the first reports free and shapes what the tools can do. Paid later: embedding into their CI and maintenance.

A payment gate for APIs and AI agents over the x402 protocol

I am looking for three teams with a public API who want to charge per call without sign-ups and API keys; I put my open Go gate in front of their API and run it for a month. How I choose: a live API with traffic, willingness to accept stablecoins, feedback once a week. The participant gets working paid access to their API and the code; afterwards support by agreement or staying on the open version.

Open calls

Which small backend tool are you missing?

Send a task you solve with a workaround every time: a check, a parser, a gate, a command-line utility. Every two weeks I pick one and release it as an open tool in Go under a free license. How I choose: the task shows up for many people, fits in 20 to 40 hours, and is not tied to one vendor. The author gets the tool first and a mention in the README if they want it.

Trial work

A paid trial task on your terms

Instead of a resume and a call, give me a 4 to 8 hour task from your backlog; I do it at my rate and you judge by the code. How I choose: a task with a clear definition of done and repository access or an isolated module. You get the task done and an honest answer about whether we should keep working together.
